February 24: Republic of Somalia and WFDP pledged to enhance cooperation and widen the scope of their humanitarian efforts.
During a recent meeting with the First Lady of the Republic of Somalia, Her Excellency Zahra Omar Hassan, WFDP, represented by H.E. Ekramy El Zaghat, President and Mr. Rajiv N. Kapoor, Financial Advisor – President’s Office, highlighted WFDP’s recent initiatives to focus and provide additional opportunities for Women’s Empowerment viz. The Girls Code Program.
The First Lady was briefed on this very important initiative by WFDP to create and provide a global platform and genuine opportunities to empower and encourage young women to consider scholastic development and career in the field of ICT (Information and Communication Technology). H.E. Ekramy advised that The Girls Code Program has been conceived as community outreach programs, workshops & after-school initiatives aimed at providing equal opportunity to underprivileged girls globally and especially in Africa to learn basic programming languages. Through this program, WFDP expects to create awareness and avenues for introducing such concepts and skill sets to the Girls so that they develop as skilled, contributing members to their countries’ GDP and become economically self-sustaining. Mr. Kapoor highlighted WFDP’s commitments to raise resources of at least USD 50 Million in the initial phase to support such initiatives and our resolve to increase this outlay to USD 500 Million over the next five years.
The First Lady stated that there was a huge opportunity for WFDP to contribute and partner in her efforts to improve the education and quality of life of women in Somalia. The First Lady further stated that she is deeply committed to enhancing literacy levels in Somalia and widening opportunities for economic growth and welfare of the Women in Somalia on a sustained basis. The First Lady invited WFDP to participate in the government’s efforts to provide quality education and other areas as well on a sustained basis. On behalf of WFDP,
H.E. Ekramy Elzaghat and Mr. Rajiv Kapoor, while admiring the pioneering social work being carried out by the First Lady in Somalia, promised to continue to explore and widen the scope of contribution to various humanitarian activities in Somalia.
Dr.Dinesh Sabnis who is Addl.Representative of WFDP in the United Nations Geneva Office & Peace Envoy to India reported that this meeting was great success and The Girl Code Program that has been introduced by WFDP will be one of the essential and effective processes in the future time that will enhance the quality and bring development for girl child in various part of the global world.
