New Delhi (India) July 9 : The flagship platform for Taiwan-India economic and cultural exchanges, “Taiwan Expo in India 2024,” returns to New Delhi, the capital of India, after a five-year hiatus. The 7th edition of the Taiwan Expo India 2024 encompassing exhibitions and networking events was inaugurated on Monday, July 8, 2024 led by Cynthia Kiang, Director General of the International Trade Administration (TITA), and James Huang, Chairman of Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).

120 Taiwanese companies are exhibiting grandly at the Bharat Mandapam (Pragati Maidan), Hall number 2. James Huang, Chairman of TAITRA, in his speech, stated that since 2018, India has risen in the global manufacturing sector, offering excellent services that align with international trends and becoming a popular regional manufacturing hub. Taiwan, as a strong player in chip manufacturing, aims to enhance supply chain resilience and is set to collaborate with India to establish a wafer fab, perfectly aligning with the “Make in India” initiative. With Taiwan’s AI prowess, the “Digital India” and “Smart Cities” initiatives will lead Taiwan and India to set new milestones in the global technology manufacturing industry.

Cynthia Kiang, Director General of TITA pointed out that India is currently the world’s second-largest manufacturer of footwear and textiles. With the global brands’ “China+1” strategy taking effect, India has become a production base for supply chain relocation. This year, TITA introduced an innovative approach of “Cross-Industry Alliances,” integrating petrochemical, machinery, and textile industries for joint marketing promotion. At this Expo, TAITRA and the Taiwan Textile Federation established the “Smart Manufacturing Pavilion” and the ” Sustainable & Innovation Textile Pavilion,” showcasing Taiwan’s intelligent and efficient solutions in petrochemical, shoemaking, and textile processes to demonstrate Taiwan’s industrial energy and capture vast business opportunities in India.

Bau Shuan Ger, Representative of TECC in India, expressed his belief that the longstanding partnership between Taiwan and India will continue to strengthen, further impacting the dynamic global market. Mr. Lalduhawma, Chief Minister of Mizoram State, who attended the opening ceremony, highlighted Taiwan’s role as a significant global industrial hub and emphasized the limitless potential for future bilateral cooperation.

To help more excellent New Taipei City enterprises expand into the Indian market, Chu, Tih-Ju, Deputy Mayor, of New Taipei City Government, and Amy Ho, Commissioner of New Taipei City Government, Economic Development Department led 20 well-known businesses to establish the “New Taipei City Pavilion,” focusing on smart cities, electronics and machinery manufacturing, smart healthcare, and e-sports, targeting India’s industrial needs and green transformation opportunities.

On the first afternoon of the expo, TAITRA held the “Taiwan-Japan Business Cooperation Seminar and Matchmaking in India,” inviting representatives from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) New Delhi office, major Japanese trading companies Sumitomo and Marubeni, Japanese companies Panasonic, Delta Electronics, and Ahamani to share their experiences in the Indian market. The business meeting that followed focused on electronics, smart mobility, and smart manufacturing industries, seeking further trilateral cooperation opportunities between Taiwan, Japan, and India. Robert Hsieh, Deputy Representative from the TECC in India, and Kyoko Hokugo, minister (Economic and Development), Embassy of Japan were also present to deliver speeches.

Taiwan Expo 2024 in India, held from July 8 to 10, offers Taiwanese companies a prime opportunity to showcase their top products in New Delhi. This year’s Expo features 12 pavilions across key sectors such as Electronics Manufacturing, Medical and Biotechnology, Smart Lifestyle, Smart Manufacturing, and more, providing an interactive experience with diverse products. The event is 1.6 times larger than last year’s in Mumbai, with enterprise participation nearly back to pre-pandemic levels. Highlight pavilions, organized by Taiwan’s central ministries, local governments, and industry associations, underscore the importance of the Indian market. Notable examples include the Taiwan Visitors Association promoting tourism and the Taipei Computer Association’s Innovation Pavilion showcasing high-tech smart solutions and AIoT products.
