Behind the scenes of Mumbai Indians’ IPL success story

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 19: The Indian Premier League began in 2008; a year after India’s cricket team won the inaugural World Twenty20 tournament in a thrilling final against Pakistan. What began as a noble goal 11 years ago is now widely regarded as the best Twenty 20 competition in the world.

The 14th season of the Indian Premier League, often known as IPL 14, took place this year. The Mumbai Indians were the reigning champions for the two years in a row, having won both the 2019 and 2020 seasons. The Punjab Kings were renamed Kings XI Punjab ahead of the event.

After an increase in COVID-19 cases within the bio bubbles of individual teams, the event was postponed indefinitely on 4 May 2021. Thirty-one of the scheduled sixty matches were still to be played at the time of the suspension. The BCCI confirmed on May 29, 2021, that the tournament’s final matches would be held in the United Arab Emirates in September and October 2021.

The Mumbai Indians are a team that knows what it takes to win. It may appear to be a basic and straightforward statement, yet it sums up the five-time IPL champs.  Last season, they proved once again why having a winning culture is just as crucial as maintaining a great skill set. Mumbai Indians won their fifth title in 2020.

The Mukesh Ambani-owned team, Mumbai Indians have been able to stamp their class and authority in the league as a result of the knowledge and techniques garnered from all five coaches—Lalchand Rajput, Shaun Pollock, John Wright, Ricky Ponting, and Mahela Jayawardena.

To suggest the Mumbai Indians were the most consistent team in the IPL 2020 would be an understatement. For a long time, they’ve been the team to beat. The Mumbai Indians’ success hasn’t come by surprise; their reputation as the most successful Twenty20 squad of all time has been earned over the course of nearly a decade, a journey that received an irreversible boost midway through the 2013 season when Rohit Sharma took over as captain from Ricky Ponting. The Mumbai Indians’ winning streak is not due to their ability to spend more money than their opponents, contrary to popular belief. The fact that all eight franchises get to use the same stadium is one of the IPL’s many unique aspects and proves that the winning team had no extra advantages as compared to the other teams.

People talk about role delineation, execution clarity, and purpose synchronicity. However, Mumbai’s insistence on stability has been one of the team’s greatest assets. It’s a trend that the Chennai Super Kings pioneered. However, unlike Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s squad, which continues to believe in products that are beyond their sell-by date, Mumbai is more sensible and cautious in its decisions.

To sum up the main reasons for Mumbai Indians’ repeated success over the years are having the same core team, impressive talent scouting, encouraging support staff, and a strong, but grounded financial base.

The sole difference between the Mumbai Indians and other clubs is that the latter has made good use of their resources. They’ve put their money where it counts. From scouting talent to acquiring the proper players to putting up strong support staff for the squad, it’s all part of the job.

Aside from financial assistance, their owners ensure that the players have time off and relaxation before a match. The players are never put under any strain and are always treated as a family.
